Fulton Global Youth Commissioners Return from Istanbul, Turkey | Print |

Fulton County Global Youth Commissioners recently returned to Atlanta from Istanbul, Turkey tired but energized.  Nine of the eleven Youth Commissioners who made the 13-day trip, which began Saturday, May 29, 2010, took the time for a final photograph together as they exited the escalator to pick up their luggage from baggage claim at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The group visited political dignitaries, toured Mosques and met other youth leadership groups in Turkey to learn about issues facing youth in Turkey and to share the issues that young people face here in the United States.  The third annual cultural exchange trip also included stops in Ankara, Cappadocia, Mardin, Izmir and Istanbul. The first two exchange programs featured travel to South Africa and Germany.

Students from various Commission Districts who participated in the 2010 trip included (from left) Brianna Fullwood, District 6; Erin Dabbs, District 6; Camille Sims, District 6; Malik Epps, District 6; Wesley Mannings, District 7; Neil Sethi, District 3; Tavia Bell, District 6; Jailyn Baugh, District 7 and Treva Tam, District 3.  Two additional students not pictured included Kipyo Jeon, District 3 and Ankita Shirahatti, District 3.  The Board of Commissioners sponsors the Global Youth Commission exchange program. The program was founded by Chairman John Eaves, District 1, At Large.
