County Takes Critical First Steps Toward Phase I of Library Capital Improvement Program | Print |

Fulton County will begin the first phase of its $275 million Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Capital Improvement Program after the approval of a Project Management contract at the September 1 meeting of the Board of Commissioners.

A joint venture team consisting of the firms Heery International and H.J. Russell, Inc. was selected to provide program management services for Phase I of the Library Capital Improvement Program.  The contract is valued at $3,334,928 for three years, with two renewal options.

Phase I will consist of the new construction of eight branch libraries, including locations in Alpharetta, Palmetto/Chattahoochee Hill Country, East Roswell, Milton, Northwest Atlanta, Southeast Atlanta, Stewart-Lakewood and Wolf Creek.  Phase I also includes two major expansions of the Auburn Avenue Research Library and South Fulton Library.

“I am thrilled that the Board’s action brings us one step closer to building these eight new libraries,” said Fulton County Chairman John H. Eaves.  “We are keeping our promise to residents to expand library services throughout Fulton County.”

The project management team will be responsible for coordination and oversight of Phase I projects.

In addition to the Heery/Russell Joint Venture, project subcontractors include D. Clark Harris, Godfreys Associates, Inc., and 2M Design Consultants, Inc.

Fulton County voters approved funding of the Library Capital Improvement Program in a 2008 bond referendum.
