Fulton County Hosts Historical Signing of Child Abuse Protocol | Print |

Thirty-three county agencies agree to accountability

Fulton County and thirty-three local agencies will solidify their agreement to ensure child abuse cases are handled in a professional and thorough manner with great sensitivity towards the needs of the child by signing the Fulton County Child Abuse Protocol on Tuesday, April 26, 2011.  The Fulton County Protocol is designed to protect children who have been or are alleged to be victims of abuse by ensuring that the needs of the child are given priority over system or agency needs.

The signing of the Fulton County Child Abuse Protocol will happen at 2:00 pm on April 26, 2011 in the Assembly Hall of the Fulton County Government Center located at 141 Pryor Street, Atlanta.  Representatives from Fulton County government agencies, Fulton County school system, municipal law enforcement agencies, child advocacy groups and the Fulton County court system will officially sign the document to support accountability in child abuse cases in Fulton County.

The purpose of the protocol is to:

ensure coordination and cooperation between all agencies involved in a child abuse case to increase the efficiency of all agencies handling such cases; to minimize the stress created for the allegedly abused child by the legal and investigatory process; and to ensure that more effective treatment is provided for the family and the child, including counseling.

The historical signing complies with a state requirement that each county establish a child abuse protocol in response to child abuse cases as outlined in Georgia State Code O.C.G.A. § 19-15-2.
