Citizens to learn and experience the day-in-the life of an officer

Have you ever wondered about the training police officers receive? Do you want to “unveil the shroud” of what police agencies really do? Well, here is your opportunity. The Fulton County Police Department is now accepting applications for its Citizen Police Academy. This nine-week program provides insights into the trends, challenges, and issues facing officers in the accomplishment of their mission.

The program will run from September 29, 2011 through December 1, 2011. Department personnel will host each of the nine sessions on Thursday evenings (except November 24, 2011) from 7:00p.m. until 10:00p.m. Beginning with the Fulton County Police Headquarters located at 5440 Fulton Industrial Boulevard, the department will hold sessions at various police facilities to provide a complete experience for the participants. Session topics will include Fulton County Police Department history and overview, traffic enforcement, and
live-fire demonstrations, just to name a few.

The program is opened to unincorporated Fulton County residents, employees, business managers and owners who are at least 18 years of age with no felony convictions. The program will be limited to 25 attendees.

To complete an application, please visit the Fulton County Police Department’s website at fultonpolice.org or contact Lieutenant Paige Edwards at the Fulton County Public Safety Training Center, (404)346-7940.
