2012 National Black Health Awards Banquet

— Black Doctors are important to the history of our country and vital to the progression of our culture. Atlanta has a very rich medical community and some of the very best African American physicians practice here. It is the mission of the Black Health Medical Research Foundation, a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization to locate these outstanding doctors that have made significant contributions to medicine, research and have made an impression on their respective communities. In doing so, Black Health is hosting the 2012 National Black Health Awards Banquet honoring 25 of Atlanta’s most influential African American Doctors on September 22, 2012 at the Downtown Atlanta Marriott Marquis. The VIP reception will commence at 5:00 p.m. followed by the red carpet black- tie awards banquet at 7:00 p.m.

"African American Doctors are extremely talented and have contributed immensely to revolutionizing medicine and technology throughout the world" said Dr. Ken Taylor, Medical Director of the National Black Women’s Health and Beauty Conference. A short list consists of key researchers, surgeons and inventors such as Dr. Charles Drew, who reformed the understanding of blood plasma – leading to the invention of blood banks; Dr. Patricia Bath, a noted Ophthalmologist and famous black inventor of the Laserphaco Probe and procedure in the removal of cataracts; Dr. Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the U.S. by President George W.
