Board of Commissioners Approves Samuel Westmoreland as Director of Registration and Elections | Print |

On Wednesday March 7, 2012, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners confirmed Samuel P. Westmoreland, Esq. as the County’s new Director of Registration and Elections. 

When Mr. Westmoreland joined the Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections eight years ago, one of his goals was to bring new technologies and procedures to the County‚Äôs voting system.¬† After twice holding the position as Vice-Chair of the Board, Mr. Westmoreland was appointed the Interim Director of Registration and Elections which he has held since July 2011.¬† Today, as the newly appointed Director, Mr. Westmoreland is pleased to say that ‚ÄúFulton County has the ideal voting system, equipment, resources and personnel that warrant distinction as a world-class operation.‚Ä̬†

Mr. Westmoreland is a civil rights attorney who practiced extensively throughout the Southeast.  He has argued and won precedent-setting anti-discrimination cases in both Georgia and Mississippi.  He is a founding member of the Mississippi Housing Law Clinic and a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award as well as the New York Southern Society’s prestigious Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award. 

Mr. Westmoreland holds an undergraduate degree from Troy University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi.
