Fulton County Breaks Ground for Renovation of Youth-focused Health Facility | Print |

Commissioner Joan P. Garner, District 6, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners and Fulton County Health Services will hold a ground breaking ceremony Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 11:00am at 2805 Metropolitan Parkway, SW, Atlanta, GA 30315. Oak Hill Child, Adolescent and Family Center which focuses on reducing health disparities among children and youth by emphasizing health, prevention and wellness, early childhood development, nutrition, learning, fitness, and youth employment.  Reducing the negative impact of childhood asthma and childhood obesity will also be emphasized in the programming planned for this campus.

In June 2010, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners approved a $5.4 million bond awarded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to renovate the 64 year old gated and secure 22-acre campus located at 2805 Metropolitan Parkway, SW in Atlanta, GA.  Construction renovation is expected to be completed in the fall of 2012.

Services offered at Oak Hill will address a variety of challenges facing children and youth including behavioral healthcare, pediatric care with a teen health clinic and an Education Center.  The Oak Hill Education Center will house a resource room in partnership with Fulton County libraries, a teaching kitchen (nutrition education), and a youth workforce development program (job assistance) in partnership with Fulton County Department of Human Services.  The campus will also feature a community garden, a gymnasium, walking trails and a daycare center for client use while attending appointments on campus.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in the Education Building of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church located at 2840 Metropolitan SW, in Atlanta GA 30315.
