Fulton Re-Opens State-of-the-Art Tennis Center After $350,000 Renovation | Print |

South Fulton residents are already asking “Tennis, anyone?”   Fulton County has completed a $350,000 renovation of the South Fulton Tennis Center. The community is invited to attend a Grand Re-opening Ceremony on Friday, August 1 at 10 a.m.

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners approved funding for the renovation as part of the 2014 South Fulton Tax District (Unincorporated) budget.  District 7 Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards, who advocated for the funding, said “We are thrilled to open this new facility for the benefit of residents in South Fulton.  We fully expect that the South Fulton Tennis Center will attract tennis enthusiasts from throughout the metro area and the state. Good things continue to happen in South Fulton County!”

The South Fulton Tennis Center first opened in 1977 and has hosted national tennis events throughout its history.  The newly renovated facility offers 24 tennis courts for adults and children, including four full-sized clay courts and eight 36-foot permanent courts for players ages 8 & under.  Visitors will also enjoy updated restrooms, including showers and lockers, as well as a renovated clubhouse area. The facility will soon offer a Juice Bar and Pro Shop.

The South Fulton Tennis Center has been certified by the U.S. Tennis Association – Atlanta as a location for competitions.  As a result of this certification, the facility is eligible to host Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association (ALTA) competitions.

Fulton County has contracted with South Atlanta Community Tennis Association to operate the facility, offering court rentals and lessons.  The facility will operate seven days per week.  A new website will soon offer online court reservations.  Discounts are offered for seniors and “super seniors.”

During its opening weekend, the South Fulton Tennis Center will host the Coan Tennis Association’s “Summer Sizzler” Competition.  Registration is now open.
