County Manager and Arts and Culture Director visit program at two South Fulton Arts Centers

Atlanta -- County Manager Richard “Dick” Anderson and Arts and Culture Director Lionell Thomas visited the Southwest and South Fulton Arts Centers recently to get a first-hand look at the progress of the newly initiated “Living Out Loud” pilot project, a collaboration between the Departments of Arts and Culture and Senior Services to provide more enrichment classes for active seniors.

Following a proposal from District 5 Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington Jr., the Board of Commissioners approved a pilot project expanding the availability of enrichment, creative arts and fitness classes for seniors in South Fulton.   Commissioners hope the success of the pilot project will lead to expansion of the program into Arts and Culture facilities throughout the County.   The project seeks to meet the increasing needs of a growing senior population in Fulton County and to support healthy aging.

Currently, Senior Services is holding classes in multipurpose facilities that are filled to capacity with active seniors asking for more access to arts and healthy lifestyle classes.   Senior Services provides programming through its multipurpose facilities and senior centers across the county to help residents 55 years old and up to avoid isolation, improve their overall health and enjoy creative expression to help them to maintain independent lifestyles.
